II 14.1 II Janaka: He who by nature is
empty-minded, and who thinks of things only unintentionally, is freed from
deliberate remembering like one awakened from a dream.
14.1 By nature my mind is empty. Even in
sleep, I am awake. I think of things without thinking. All my impressions of
the world Have dissolved.
14.1 Though appearing asleep like
other men,
one whose interest in the world is
exhausted,
whose mind has been emptied,
who thinks only by inadvertence,
is in Reality awake.

II 14.2 II When my desire has been eliminated, I have no wealth, friends,
robber senses, scriptures or knowledge?
14.2 My desires have melted away. So what
do I care for money Or the thieving senses, For friends or knowledge or holy
books?
14.2 When desire has melted,
how can there be wealth,
or friends, or the seduction of
senses?
What use is scripture and knowledge?

II 14.3 II Realising my supreme self-nature
in the Person of the Witness, the Lord, and the state of desirelessness in
bondage or liberation, I feel no inclination for liberation.
14.3 Liberation, Bondage, What are they to
me? What do I care for freedom? For I have known God, The infinite Self, The
witness of all things.
14.3 I have realized the Supreme Self,
the Witness, the One.
I am indifferent
to bondage and freedom.
I have no need for liberation.

Synopsis
of Chapter-14
Janak now describes his exalted state without
indifference. Janak is indifferent to everything and expresses his experience.
He says that those in that state seem to be at rest, as their body rests. Their
minds have been emptied of all attachments. They appear to be resting and not
awake, but in reality, they are the only ones who truly are awake. He already
realized the supreme self and witnessed the one. He attains ignorance. To him,
freedom and bondage are the same. It does not matter to him.\
