bhāvābhāvavikāraśca
svabhāvāditi niścayī nirvikāro gatakleśaḥ sukhenaivopaśāmyati
II 11.1 II Ashtavakra:Unmoved and undistressed,
realising that being, non-being and change are of the very nature of things,
one easily finds peace.
11.1 All things arise, Suffer change, And
pass away. This is their nature. When you know this, Nothing perturbs you,
Nothing hurts you. You become still. It is easy.
11.1 Existence, non-existence,
change--
this is the nature of things.
Realizing this,
stillness, serenity and bliss
naturally follow.
અષ્ટાવક્રે કહ્યું: ભાવ અને અભાવરૂપ (અર્થાત્ સૃષ્ટિઅને
નાશરૂપ) વિકાર સ્વભાવથી જ (અર્થાત્ માયાથી જ) થાય છે
એમ જેણે નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે, તેવો નિર્વિકાર અને ક્લેશરહિત મનુષ્ય
સહેલાઈથી જ શાંત બને છે. ૧
īśvaraḥ sarvanirmātā nehānya iti niścayī antargalitasarvāśaḥ śāntaḥ kvāpi na sajjate
II
11.2 II At peace, having shed all desires within, and realising that nothing
exists here but the Lord, the Creator of all things, one is no longer attached
to anything.
11.2 God made all things. There is only
God. When you know this, Desire melts away. Clinging to nothing, You become
still.
11.2 One who knows for certain that
“Self creates All and is alone”
becomes still, desireless, unattached.
અહીં સર્વનું નિર્માણ કરનાર ઇશ્વર જ છે અને બીજો કોઈ
નથી એમ જેણે નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે અને જેની બધી આશા અંતકરણમાં
નાશ પામી છે તેવો શાંત મનુષ્ય કશે પણ આસક્ત થતો નથી. ર
āpadaḥ saṁpadaḥ kāle daivādeveti niścayī
tṛptaḥ svasthendriyo
nityaṁ na vānchati na śocati
II 11.3 II Realising that misfortune and
fortune come in their turn from fate, one is contented, one's senses under control,
and does not like or dislike.
11.3 Sooner or later, Fortune or
misfortune, May befall you. When you know this, You desire nothing, You grieve
for nothing. Subduing the senses, You are happy.
11.3 One who knows for certain
that adversity and success
come and go in obedience to destiny
becomes content.
He neither desires nor grieves.
સમય (સમય પર . આવતી) આપાત્ત અને સંપત્તિ
દૈવથી જ (આવે) છે એમ જેણે નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે તેવો સંતોષી
અને હમેશાં શાંત ઇન્દ્રિયોવાળો (કશાની) ઈચ્છા કરતો નથી,
તેમ જ (કશાનો) શોક (પણ) કરતો નથી. ૩
sukhaduḥkhe janmamṛtyū daivādeveti niścayī sādhyādarśī nirāyāsaḥ kurvannapi na lipyate
II 11.4 II Realising that pleasure and
pain, birth and death are from fate, and that one's desires cannot be achieved,
one remains inactive, and even when acting does not get attached.
11.4 Whatever you do Brings joy or sorrow,
Life or death. When you know this, You may act freely, Without attachment. For
what is there to accomplish?
11.4 One who knows for certain
that birth and death, happiness and
misery,
come and go in obedience to destiny
sees nothing to accomplish.
He engages in non-action,
and in action remains unattached.
સુખ -દુઃખ (અને) જન્મ -મૃત્યુ દૈવથી જ (આવે)
છે એમ જેણે નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે, તેવો સાધ્ય કર્મને જોનારો અને
પરિશ્રમરહિત બનેલો મનુષ્ય કર્મ કરતો છતાં લેપાતો નથી. ૪
cintayā jāyate duḥkhaṁ nānyatheheti niścayī tayā hīnaḥ sukhī śāntaḥ sarvatra galitaspṛhaḥ
II 11.5 II Realising that suffering arises
from nothing other than thinking, dropping all desires one rids oneself of it,
and is happy and at peace everywhere.
11.5 All sorrow comes from fear. From
nothing else. When you know this, You become free of it, And desire melts away.
You become happy And still.
11.5 One who has realized
that only by caring
is misery caused in the world
becomes free, happy, serene,
desireless.
આ સંસારમાં ચિંતાને લઈને જ દુઃખ ઉત્પન્ન થાય છે અને
બીજી કોઈ રીતે થતું નથી એમ જેણે નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે તે (ચિતાથી)
રહિત (અને) સર્વત્ર સ્પૃહાહીન મનુષ્ય સુખી અને શાંત બને છે. ૫
nāhaṁ deho na me deho bodho'hamiti niścayī kaivalyaṁ iva saṁprāpto na smaratyakṛtaṁ kṛtam
II 11.6 II Realising, "I am not the
body, nor is the body mine. I am awareness", one attains the supreme state
and no longer remembers things done or undone.
11.6 "I am not the body, Nor is the
body mine. I am awareness itself" When you know this, You have no thought
For what you have done Or left undone. You become one, Perfect and indivisible.
11.6 “I am not the body, nor is the
body my possession—
I am Awareness itself.”
One who realizes this for certain
has no memory of things done or left
undone.
There is only the Absolute.
’હું દેહ નથી; દેહ મારો નથી, “હું” બોધરૂપ છું’ એવો
એણે નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે તેવો મોક્ષને પ્રાપ્તથયેલો મનુષ્ય કરેલાં કે
ન કરેલાં કર્મોને સંભારતો નથી. ૬
ābrahmastaṁbaparyantaṁ ahameveti niścayī nirvikalpaḥ śuciḥ śāntaḥ prāptāprāptavinirvṛtaḥ
II 11.7 II Realising, "I alone exist,
from Brahma down to the last clump of grass", one becomes free from
uncertainty, pure, at peace and unconcerned about what has been attained or
not.
11.7 "I am in all things, From Brahma
to a blade of grass." When you know this, You have no thought For success
or failure Or the mind's inconstancy. You are pure. You are still.
11.7 “From Brahma to the last blade of
grass--
I alone exist.”
One who knows this for certain
becomes immaculate, serene,
unconflicted.
Attainment has no meaning.
બ્રહ્માથી માંડીને તુણ સુધી “હું” જ રહ્યો છું એવો
નિશ્ચય કરનાર મનુષ્ય સંકલ્પરહિત, પવિત્ર, શાંત અને પ્રાપ્તને
અપ્રાપ્તથી રહિત બને છે. ૭
nāścaryamidaṁ viśvaṁ na kiṁciditi niścayī nirvāsanaḥ sphūrtimātro na kiṁcidiva śāmyati
II 11.8 II Realising that all this varied
and wonderful world is nothing, one becomes pure receptivity, free from
inclinations, and as if nothing existed, one finds peace.
11.8 The world with all its wonders Is
nothing. When you know this, Desire melts away. For you are awareness itself.
When you know in your heart That there is nothing, You are still.
11.8 One who knows for certain
that this manifold and wonderful
universe
is nothing
becomes desireless Awareness
and abides in the stillness of
No-thing.
આ અનેક આશ્ચર્ય (અર્થાત્ ચમત્કાર વાળું) વિશ્વ કાંઈ
જ નથી એવો નિશ્ચય કરનાર, વાસનારહિત અને કેવળ ચૈતન્યરૂપ
મનુષ્ય જાણે કાંઈ છે જ નહિ એમ શાંત બને છે. ૮
Synopsis
of Chapter-11
In this chapter, Ashtavakra further defines
desirelessness as a means of attaining detachment. He further describes all
things that exist in three forms, existence, non-existence, and change which
are the nature of everything. After that, serenity, stillness, and bliss will
follow. In understanding this nature, one becomes still, desireless, and
unattached. In life, the one who understands adversity and success comes and
takes, which leads to destiny. He neither desires nor grieves. One who realizes
that birth and death, happiness and misery, come and go concerning destiny,
neither desires nor grieves.
With knowledge like this Ashtavakra teaches Janak various
things and situations.\
